Thank Your Lucky Stars That You Live In Texas

Being a Texas expatriate stuck in New England I am here to tell you that living in Texas is a gift. Reasons are numerous but I am going to list just a few.

The people - I always thought that everyone said please, thank you and even smiled at you, I was wrong. It seems to pain these people to be polite and you can forget every hearing a please or thank you. No joy here just frozen smiles that never quite reach the eyes.

Manners - Took manners for granted that your wait person was not going to throw your food on the table and cashiers were not going to snatch the money out of your hand, I was wrong. Simple things that I have always done such as addressing people as sir or mam do not work here. Had a waitress give me a 15 minute lecture that she was not old enough to be addressed as mam. Next time hey stupid broad might work better.

Food - I could write a book on this one, boiled New England dinner kind of sums it up. Even the places that try to sell food with some spice bland it down to the local taste. Went to a burrito place the other day, one burrito 7 dollars for a lot of flour tortilla and not much else. Under spiced and over priced.

Driving - My worst nightmare, these people grew up here you would think that they would know how to drive on the sad excuse for roads that they have but no. No straight roads here just curves but no one seems able to stay on the proper side of the yellow stripe. I think it goes back to that lack of manners or maybe they don't know what the yellow stripe means. Not sure if they are stupid or just the rudest drivers in America.

Dress - These people live in raggedy ass sweat pants and sweat shirts with those awful rubber shoes. Now I know that I am not a fashion plate, I was shocked when my grandaughter told me that jeans and cowboy shirts were back in fashion I didn't know that they ever went out of fashion but even I know that when you go to a nice place to eat or to the theater you dress. But the best is when we first moved up here and the real estate lady was showing us an apartment and said it's do hot today I couldn't wear hose. It was 86 degrees.

Well enough of my raving but if any of you other expatriates have any other reasons let me know.
